Cue the Duck Boats........History Has Been Made!!

What a great day for New England!  Our Patriots did us proud on Sunday. They did us more than "proud," they made history!!!   WOW!  What a game.  So many "firsts" I lost count. Did you make it through the whole game?  I hope you didn't go to bed thinking it was all over after halftime. It looks as if the #driveforfive was somewhat of a omen.   Tuesday those duck boats will be waddling down the streets of Boston as Patriot's fans line those same streets celebrating with the G.O.A.T. and his teammates.  Just in case you missed any of the action or the speeches afterward, you can check them out here:  Best Superbowl Comeback Ever.   Ladies and gentlemen, the New England Patriots "finished the job!"
This week we will move forward in our blogging adventures.  You will explore "continuing the conversation" by learning how to create quality comments.  I have created an activity similar to the one you worked on last week.  Creating quality comments takes practice. You may find it frustrating at first, but in the end I know you will become "pros" if you use your resources.
If you did not complete your "Be the Curator of Your Digital Life" activity it is your responsibility to complete it for homework on your own time.  If you do not have access to a printer at home, please be sure to come to the lab during homeroom (with a pass) and you may print it there.

Keep the Conversation Going

What a crazy weather roller coaster we have been riding!!!  First it's warm, then freezing, and then pouring.  What's next?  Some say it has to do with global warming and others say it's the El Nino impact.  I'm not sure what it is,  but I am sure I don't know how to dress each day.  Do you think we will get any big snow storms this year?  I hope not.  I would like to end school in the middle of June instead of the end this year!!
Oh well, let's move on to some things that are in our control.  We have talked a lot about blogging, and compared it to "having a conversation."  How do you keep the "conversation" going?  In a word:  COMMENTING.  There is a protocol or guidelines for commenting.  Many of you probably feel as though you are experienced and seasoned at the art of commenting as you have a lot of practice in your social media settings.  However, I have found over the years students are not at all skilled in this art.  This week we will take a close up look at commenting.
We will start by using a cool collaboration tool known as back channeling.  We will use "Today's Meet" to host a group discussion of a slide show presentation on commenting.  This slide show can be found on Huzzah, a great blog.  While we are looking at the presentation I will be asking questions of the "room", but I will be doing it "virtually."  I have given you a QR code to access the room for this discussion.  I am very excited to review and discuss this presentation with you "behind the scenes."

Another Crazy Week

It is another crazy week at BIS.  We did not have school on Monday in honor of our nation’s veterans.  I hope you all took some time to reflect on how lucky we are to live in the United States with all of our freedoms and realize many men and women have made huge sacrifices so we can enjoy these freedoms.  There were many events honoring these men and women on Cape Cod over the long weekend:  Veterans Events on Cape Cod.

It is hard to believe next week will only be a two day week due to our Thanksgiving Break.  WOW!!!  November is flying by so quickly.  Have no worries; if you have missed any classes due to school not being in session you will get caught up soon.  Everyone will look at BPS Commenting Guidelines this week.  Last year I found a great resource for commenting.  Please check it out on my “virtual” twin, Virtual 231’s post, “Beginning Blogging.”  There are some great “comment starters” in this post.  You will create some “paper comments” using post it notes to place on your classmates’ “paper posts.”  I will be assessing your paper posts and looking carefully at your comments.  Please be sure to check the BPS Commenting Guidelines as you are creating your comments.  You will have an opportunity to read your classmate’s comments before turning in your “paper posts.”    

Please remember I am making sure you are ready to go in to the “deep end of the pool.”  I am going to be sending you there with your “swimmies” on, but you are getting ready to swim that way soon!!
